It's really not good, my friend gave me something to write about, "Social Integration", and once I found out what it was I just wrote this short thing. Its hardly a story! Anyway... here it goes :)
I can see the disapproval in their face when they see us. My sister and I walked through the town centre most weekends to look around. We often see many people our age going into shops and coming out with lots of bags. The next weekend they do the same thing. Why is it that some people have everything but some have nothing? It doesn’t seem very fair.
The people in the town look at us when we pass them, it starts in their eyes. We see the shock at our cheap clothes, with rips in our jeans and our shoes falling apart. The shock soon turns to disgust. Their nose turns to a sneer and they hold their bags tighter. They shoot us looks like we could help what we wear. Very rarely I look into someone’s eyes and I see pity, they are concerned, they think they could help us. Nobody wants to help us. Everyone in town who stares and sneers, they make up our society. We are like leeches on the outside of it. That’s what they think.
My sister often asks, “Why do they give us looks like that? What have we done?” How do you explain it to someone so young? My family, we want to be better, to be able to afford clothes. To be able to make friends who don’t judge us on second hand uniform. How do you try when no one is willing to try with you?
